Introduction

AmeriHealth, a provider of Medicaid-managed care in the state of New Hampshire, wanted to reach its insured population to increase awareness and promote adoption of sun safe habits. They connected with IMPACT Melanoma to develop a customized program targeting parents and campers in six different locations throughout the state.

Partnering with IMPACT Melanoma

Sunscreen dispensers will be available at all locations listed to provide free sunscreen to all day campers. The goal is to promote safe sun habits and to encourage reapplication of SPF 30 sunscreen. Additionally, 300 campers will receive sun safety kits that include backpacks, water bottles, sunscreen and educational materials including coloring books. UV bracelets and key chain holders are also included as a teachable moment to indicate when the UV index is three or higher that it is time to apply sunscreen. Messaging includes SPF is your BFF.

AmeriHealth will also be handing out prevention education materials at various events to reach a broader community throughout New Hampshire.

The IMPACT

Access to sunscreen use is an important factor in reaching communities across the country to promote regular use of sunscreen. Sunscreen use of SPF 30 or higher reduces the risk of skin cancer by 50%. IMPACT Melanoma is thrilled to welcome AmeriHealth as a Partner in Prevention to reach more communities in New Hampshire including young campers who can influence other family members of the importance of being sun safe 365.

Additionally, AmeriHealth will have a portable sunscreen dispenser at all their planned outdoor events throughout the communities as an ongoing reminder of the importance of sunscreen use and reapplication.
