It’s Melanoma Awareness month and last evening we held our first symposium of the year as we always do, during this important month.
Our topic was Conquering Skin Cancer and the one-hour symposium included a preview of Conquering Skin Cancer USA, a movie that we are incredibly proud to be involved with both as content contributor and sponsor.
Executive Director Deb Girard welcomed all symposium attendees and Kelli Braga, IMPACT Melanoma’s Support Services Manager introduced the panel.
Following the movie preview, Kelli Braga, facilitated a lively Q&A session with our esteemed panel who included Michelle Henry, MD, a dermatologist and leader of Skin & Aesthetic Surgery of Manhattan, Mike Hill, award winning movie producer from Moonshine Agency of Australia, Sue Collins, award winning producer and content creator, and Stacey Escalante, a melanoma survivor, and former news anchor and sun worshipper.
Some questions asked by the audience:
Why did Stacey choose to share her story?
What was the most impactful story captured in filming the movie?
Should I wear sunscreen under sun protective clothing?
Which sunscreen do you recommend (e.g., mineral based, zinc…)
How do I ensure I am getting enough vitamin D?
What was the most memorable part of filming the movie?
Watch the recorded symposium to hear all the questions and the answers.
A BIG thank you to our panel for their expertise, insight, stories, and hope!

We are working tirelessly to reach every nook and cranny in the country to raise awareness, promote prevention education, and conquer skin cancer!
Along with the movie assets, we have packaged many shorts and reels for Outdoor Workers and Safety Officers, Hospitals and Cancer Coalitions, and Dermatology Practices.
As Dr. Michelle Henry said in the Q&A last evening, it takes a village. While we have made tremendous progress, we have work to do.
At IMPACT Melanoma, we believe that prevention saves lives, early detection changes outcomes, and stories have the power to inspire action. This symposium brought together science, storytelling, and community to drive meaningful progress to conquer skin cancer, including the deadliest form in the fight, melanoma.
We ended the evening with a sense of pride, accomplishment, and hope.
We can and will conquer skin cancer.
